The Merchistoun Hall Bandstand project has gained two more key sponsors. Brymor (a local construction firm who operate along the South Coast) and Covers (A Builders Merchants who are working with Brymor) are sponsoring the wood for the Bandstand – worth about £3,500.
Brymor are providing all of the loose timber which includes the rafters, batten, fascia, tongue and groove soffit and also the hard wood to manufacture the windows.
Covers are kindly donating 33 sheets of Marine quality ply which forms the rigid part of the roof structure.
Students from Highbury College will be taking delivery of the hardwood for the frames shortly and manufacturing the windows as part of their coursework. These will then be installed as the blockwork gets built to the rear walls.
The students have been away for the Christmas Break and once it gets a little warmer will be back building the superstructure. The Carpentry students will be installing all of the roofing timbers and then decorating the structure.
